I have no idea, some sort of vestige (hey look a pun!) of a bygone age, when shirts were made from the kind of quality materials that wouldn't just rip if you put anything heavier than a quarter in their pockets, anyway, they would look funny without a pocket I think... so maybe the shirts feel the same way and the pocket is some sort of secondary sexual characteristic that is absolutely vital to a t-shirt's ability to attract a mate?), and those that have some iconography representing a band I like and which YOU* have never heard of.

*Actually if you are reading this you probably heard of whatever band it may be, but in general the statement is true in regards to most life forms I might interact with if I leave my house.

This is just another example of government trying to shake down a group of folks who they think no one will defend and saying the money will be used for a cause that no one would argue with, when in truth, the money will just go into the general fund, and be wasted on (mostly metaphorical) hookers and booze.

It also sets up a scary ass thinking that somehow totally legal strip clubs are "responsible" for Human Trafficking, and should bear the brunt of any costs involved in stopping such trafficking.

I've pretty much never been to a strip club, I don't see the point, but I'm pretty damn sure the likelihood of me kidnapping some hot Eastern European chick with he intention of using her as a sex slave would remain flat if I did visit such an establishment, even regularly.

I mean seriously what is next? Will they set up a special tax on comic book stores to fund fire departments, because all that paper encourages arson? A special tax on people that sell steak knives to fund research into bovine flatulace as a cause of global warming? A new tax on drugstores because they sell decks of playing cards and are thus responsible for illegal gambling? Perhaps we should tax bottle manufacturers to pay for the problems caused by drunk drivers? Maybe farmers should be footing the bill for obesity, by funding special state run gyms?

Is not law enforcement pretty much THE basic service a government should be expected to preform, even before things like schools and roads? I think people would be pretty much against "use taxes" on schools and roads, why do "they" think we are going to be OK with use taxes on basic police and fire/rescue services?

http://haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1069220.html

Too bad they didn't throw a bullet, right?

NOT talking about fighting it.

The thing to be scared of though is their ongoing efforts to produce the means, since they constantly state that they have the desire...

Clearly as China has their back, and our throat (economically) we can't really move forward on N Korean regime change in any meaningful way, just as Russia is protecting it's Iranian territory.

However, with Iran we can act through our Israeli proxy (actually they will probably act in our best interest even if we don't actually ask them too), and probably have plausible deniability so as not to find ourselves in a thermonuclear exchange with Putin.

In fact I think this whole cock up with us dissing the Jews and giving money to Hamas (er PLO), is just that, building our street cred' as not being 100% in bed with Israel, while simultaneously making the Israeli people feel like maybe the US isn't going to protect them, so they will get on with the business of doing it themselves. (don't worry I'm not giving Obama any credit here, I think this was a plan in the works, and since giving money to terrorists isn't something Obama has a problem with, his election was a perfect time for it to get slipped into an "emergency" "stimulus" "bill"... let no crisis go to waste right?!)

In Asia we have no such proxy, though Japan has been making some progress, I think we are still left with nothing but the hope that N Korea falls from within before they develop the means, which is unlikely because again China is constantly buffing them.

Honestly I think the more likely course is that China itself will become more and more capitalist, possibly even becoming a democracy and tire of supporting the welfare state that is N Korea... that said the most likely target of a N Korean bomb is China (ever kicked a freeloader out of your home? They tend to not be all "well thanks for supporting me for so long" and more "how dare you" and lash out childishly and steal your cat and stuff. I think China realizes this, I think the whole N Korea (and their bomb) thing is possibly a "poison pill" set up by the more hardline Communist elements in China, to make sure China stays Communist, or else.)

In other words, this is nothing to worry about.

a quick definition of terms

Let's define some terms first: (definitions taken from dictionary.com, which in turn took them from other sources)

Statist - Someone who supports the principle or policy of concentrating extensive economic, political, and related controls in the state at the cost of individual liberty.

Liberal - Someone who is favorable to or in accord with concepts of maximum individual freedom possible, esp. as guaranteed by law and secured by governmental protection of civil liberties.

Conservative - Someone disposed to preserve existing conditions, institutions, etc., or to restore traditional ones, and to limit change.

Socialist - Someone who holds to a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole....

Capitalism - An economic and political system characterized by a free market for goods and services and private control of production and consumption.

You may be surprised to learn that folks like Obama, by the dictionary, rather than by the standards of complete idiots what we for some reason elect based at least in part of the delusion that they have a legitimate CLAIM of being intellectual heirs of folks like Jefferson and other great Liberals, are in fact NOT LIBERAL AT ALL.

You may also be surprised to learn that folks like myself are, by the dictionary, the true liberals, and that being liberal in fact is NOT in diametric opposition to being conservative, that in fact any rational person would be BOTH in favor of LIBERTY AND in favor of NOT throwing away systems that are working just fine thank you.

You may ALSO be surprised to learn that CAPITALISM is NOT diametrically opposed to SOCIALISM, you can in FACT combine the two RATHER FUCKING NICELY in a free market Laissez-Faire system, and we WERE well on a path to that nirvana in the era starting with Regan and ending with W (though there were some bumps and turns on the way, from both political parties, it was over all a pretty good trajectory, historically speaking)...

How you ask?

The investor class.

If everyone AS INDIVIDUALS through their own efforts AND FOR THEIR OWN GAIN chooses to invest their hard earned currency into business ventures through the purchase of stocks, bonds, et alia, does that not meet the basic criterion of Socialism, namely THE PEOPLE (as individuals, by mutual consent, rather than as a forced Statist collective) owning and controlling a stake in productive capacity of the nation?

Now there is talk of seizing 401k funds and rolling it into the STATIST "social security" Ponzi scheme, and even if that doesn't happen, the increases in capital gains tax (on individuals, I know Obama has stated some willingness to lessen the burden on "small business" for a year or two, as a distraction before really wrenching on the thumbscrews) will surely drive "the little guy" out of the market.

If we MUST have a Capital Gains tax, we should AT LEAST make it AS PROGRESSIVE as Income Tax... so that the "small money" pays none of it and thus has GREATER motivation to BUY in. Though I should, in all honestly point out that it is my opinion that BOTH Income and Capital Gains Taxes are at least as IMMORAL as a mugging.

They are more so actually, as I can shoot a mugger in self defense, I at least have SOME liberty of action against a mugger.

We can NOT simply shoot the STATE in self defense though, the closest thing it has to a body is our fellow citizens, and as they are our own flesh, violence against them would be as STUPID as cutting off your own hand to prevent it from using your credit card.

The only course forward there for must be an appeal to REASON, and failing that, a rapid decline into poverty, and possible break up of the US, possible civil war if someone decides maintaining the union is worth other people dying for (he wanted to be like Lincoln right?) or an attack from abroad in our moment(s) of weakness (unlikely, our military even divided will likely still be able to rebuke pretty much anyone, particularly if backed by armed citizen militias, and we have plenty of nukes as a deterrent).

Also, and perhaps most import to this discussion is what is ACTUALLY in the stimulus bill.

-> http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/138568.php <-

They intend to force YOUR DOCTOR to check with THE STATE to see if treating whatever condition or disease you might have is "worth it" in the eyes of the STATE, you will not be legally allowed to simply PAY them for the service of saving your life (though I'd be pretty likely to slip some old silver coins into his/her hand to do it anyway), nor will your insurance company (Contrary to popular belief, they do make more money if their clients are NOT DEAD), instead THE STATE will decide if you are allowed to live or die, based on YOUR VALUE to THE STATE.

ESSENTIALLY YOU ARE NOW IN BODY, IF NOT YET MIND, A SLAVE.

We are NO LONGER FREE my fellow Americans. The DREAM IS OVER.

Good job with that Voting thing!

On the upside, at least we won't have to worry about screwing that up for much longer.

(national debt being 55 trillionish all told (social security etc included))

As for this stupidity that Europeans killed off the Americans by accident because they had diseases that the locals had no immunity to, given that there is evidence of non-stop commerce between the new and old world back to fucking ancient Egypt, and even if you are not willing to accept that, the mother fucking Vikings were over here for a good long time before the Spaniards, the only reason for the lie and Chris's "discovery" was land rights.

not to mention birds, and the fucking wind.

and I really don't think that land was vacant for long, conquistador's gotta eat too you know.

so why did the South Americans die? well it is the same old story of crop failures due to global climate change caused by the SUN, there being good evidence of scarce rainfall in Central and South America durring this period of cooling, and of coruse internal conflicts caused by resource scarcity, etc.

Not to mention lots of them apparently felt that their culture was a bit backwards and redundant and decided to get it on with the pale guys and gals that had shown up with all the science and technology, and perhaps if the bull shit is to be believed at all, somewhat better immune systems. Given that the folks living in these areas today have some European blood, but are laregely of native stock, I think it is pretty damned obvious that bunches and bunches of the Aztec and Inca survived long enough to breed after first meeting the Europeans.

So, clearly climate change contributed to the fall of the Inca and Aztecs, NOT the other way about.

In fact, in general, Auto-Save should Save when I open a door, not after I go through it, that is it should save my game BEFORE consequences, not AFTER THEM, otherwise what is the point?

I'm also very very happy that Paladin Hoss has a rocket launcher. I'm very happy it brings him joy try and shoot the rockets at enemies through obstructions, and I am particularly ecstatic that the obstructions he tries to shoot his rockets through happen to be the same ones I'm taking cover behind… and it says "I" need training to use power armor… Please for the love of god if you do nothing else fix Paladin Hoss's AI, I'm sick of being blown up by the otherwise nice guy I'm trying to help.

One last thing, are giant ant queens supposed to be able to teleport past me and get stuck and totally block off my exit, or would you call that a bug?

If you guys want to hire someone to manage your playtesters, build a bug tracking app, kick in developer teeth until they fix stuff, or something similar give me a ring.

So I know a lot of people think healthcare should be a right, and think it should be provided by the government.

Just so you know, step one, is to tell you that you can't afford it on your own, that you deserve it, that it is owed you, and that it is a horrible thing that not everyone has it, but THEY can give it to you, and everyone else.

sure sounds fine...

step two however is saying "oh we are sooo sorry, you can't move to our state/country because you have x medical condition that would be too expensive for us to provide care for." (This is already happening in Australia)

step three is to say "oh your child has x genetic defect and the state has determined that it would be less costly to buy you an abortion than to provide lifetime medical care for it" (Russia got at least this far)

step four is when they say "you don't contribute enough to the state for us to waste time keeping you alive and healthy." (Germany made it this far)

step five is mother fucking carousel for anyone who lives longer than standard working lifespan. (Logan's run is real life!!!)

then of course you can also set aside whatever classes of people you don't like and gas them or put them to slave labor, and base it on eugenics, or some other medical or sociological trait those people have... because they aren't being team players, or because they cost more than they are worth, whatever your excuse, they will be made useful by converting their bodies to BTUs if nothing else.

I really wonder when many of you will wake up...

before the election?
before they re-pass the fairness doctrine and silence free speech?
before they take all our guns?
-note they don't really seem to care about people who have ILLEGAL GUNS, they just want to stop LEGAL gun ownership, that is, it is OK if you are a gangster, it is NOT OK if you are a hunter, or simply wish to defend your property, your life, or those of others.
before they recruit your family members friends and neighbors into some sort of brownshirts/gestapo/kgb type organization to report/arrest/kill you for aberrant thoughts?

I leave you with this.

"It was the most touching moment of my life!
